Our objective

The objective of the Be Well Child Care Foundation (“BWCCF”) is to provide medical solutions for individual children severely distressed by a medical condition requiring specialized treatment and care which cannot be provided by the regular health care infrastructure in Thailand.

Which children do we try to help?

BWCCF focuses on children with complicated health issues. This means children up to 16 years of age with complicated medical conditions that promise reasonable chances of recovery or the possibility of a significant and sustainable improved quality of life.

Until Be Well clinics open in other parts of Thailand, we will focus on children living not too far from the Be Well clinics in Hua Hin. For example, the locations will be within the Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan provinces, or at the most a 3 hour drive which would include Ratchaburi, Kanchanaburi and Chumphon. In exceptional circumstances the BWCCF can consider cases located elsewhere in Thailand.

Our Organization

BWCCF was established on 12 June 2022. The Board of BWCCF consists of four members led by Dr. Mowae Apisuttiapanya, a Be Well Medical Center General Practitioner who is frequently involved in medical outreach programs within the community.

BWCCF’s daily management will be in the hands of a Medical Advisory Team (“MAT”) under the leadership of its Chairman and Coordinator, Dr. Gerard Smit, a retired Dutch General Practitioner and Family Doctor residing in Hua Hin. Other members of the MAT are:
● Management, partners, and medical professionals of the Be Well Medical Center.
● A group of retired international medical doctors being Members of the Be Well Advisory Committee.
● Other medical specialists and institutes associated with Be Well Medical Center.

The BWCCF will be advised and audited by certified accountants and auditors.

Donors & Sponsors

The core medical sponsor of the BWCCF is the Be Well Medical Center in Hua Hin, making their medical practitioners and members of the Advisory Committee, as well as the clinic’s facilities and pharmacy, available for the BWCCF on a pro bono basis.

BWCCF will attract base funding from general donations for patients requiring a relatively small budget for treatment &/or medications. For patients requiring expensive specialized treatment &/or surgery the
BWCCF will try to raise individual funding through cash and in-kind donations.

If you wish to contribute, you can do this in person at Be Well Medical Center or by bank transfer to the following account:

Bank : Kasikorn Bank

Account Name :  Be Well Medical Center Foundation

Account number : 131-1-48292-7

SWIFT CODE: KASITHBK

Our approach

BWCCF will use the following phased approach:

Step 1: assessment

Upon receiving an inquiry (see application procedure below) the MAT will assess suitability of the application. Assessment will be done by studying the medical file and/or other available data and, if needed and possible, meeting with the patient and family/caretakers.

Step 2:  investigations of treatment options, development of a management plan and calculation of the budget.

If the assessment has confirmed the patient fits the criteria for BWCCF support, the MAT will investigate the possible options for treatment, discuss the options with the patient (family), develop a management plan for the selected option, and estimate the budget for the costs. This process will be conducted by using the national and international networks of the Be Well Medical Center and the Be Well Advisory Committee.

Step 3:  fund raising.

BWCCF will firstly determine if the cost of the selected treatment option can be covered by the ready available base funds. If not, BWCCF will initiate a fund raising activity for the individual patient.

Step 4: implementation of the management plan

Once funds are secured BWCCF will commence implementation (coordination) of the management plan.

Individualized patient management plans could include any of the following:

  • Treatment in the Be Well clinic (e.g. for pre & post-hospitalization/rehab care)
  • Home care (medical/nursing/physiotherapy)
  • Providing medicines and medical supplies
  • Arranging treatment in specialized hospitals in Thailand or abroad.
